Taking Offense

I’ve recently being thinking about the subject of being offended.

It seems that everyone, me included, takes offense to everything. If you disagree with someone’s opinion, you are being small minded and rude. If you disagree with the way someone treats their spouse, you are mean and you don’t understand their life. If you disagree with the way someone parents their children, you are judgmental.

If you express an opinion, you are mouthy and opinionated. If you share a frustration with a friend, you are a gossip. If you don’t invite someone to spend time with you, you are excluding them.

Everything everyone does is taken in offense.

Why? Why are we so self-centered that we fear allowing another person to have thoughts outside of our own?

Moe and I are best-friends. We also are complete opposites in so many areas of our lives, it’s hard to count. But, in the areas that matter, it’s awesome. We might say, “shut it bitch!” every once in a while, but for the most part, we laugh until we cry, and we are there when in matters for the other one.

I can’t imagine my life without my loud, opinionated friend who loves with her entire heart… And I hope she can’t imagine her life without her loud, opinionated friend too.
